Areas in Delaware Where Plants Are Most Likely to Thrive

Not all plants thrive under the same temperature and climate conditions. Therefore, it is important to know your state’s climate zone so you know what plants you can successfully grow there. Most gardeners use the USDA Hardiness Zone Map to determine what plants thrive in a specific location. The map is based on the average annual minimum winter temperature, divided into 10-degree F zones. Below is the map for Delaware. Delaware is known for its moderate climate. The average growing season for the state is around 170 to 200 days long, depending on what region you are located in. Areas along the coast are 10 degrees hotter in the summer and 10 degrees cooler in the winter. We recommend planting beans, corn, squash, cucumber, and pumpkin here for this reason.
